About Stillwaters Retreat

Stillwaters Retreat is a beautiful (and when I say beautiful, I mean beautiful!) wedding venue just outside of Findlay, Ohio, and about 45 minutes south of Toledo, Ohio. The venue itself has a gorgeous lake, beautiful woods and paths, a modern and rustic barn, a fun fire pit area, and a lovely ceremony spot right off the lake. Stillwaters Retreat was just recently launched and just has a fresh, new, modern vibe combined with a woodsy, rustic, secluded retreat vibe that we Ohioans like to escape to. I’m totally jealous of anyone who hosts their wedding here!

If you definitely love woods, camping, hiking but a little bit of sophistication and modernness, I would definitely recommend this venue – even if it’s a bit of a drive for you.

About the Wedding Photography Shoot

A styled wedding shoot was scheduled in mid-October and it was absolutely beautiful time of year for Stillwaters Retreat. There were two setups – berries galore and a set of neutral tones. There were two couples placed in these setups (and yes these are real couples!)

The berry themed style was a lot of fun. The bright fuschia and berry tones made for great photos. The couple was open to going into the woods and having some fun taking some pictures there. We also enjoyed time by the firepit and the trailer bar. (Once again, this venue is just amazingly beautiful!)

The neutral tones were also great to photograph. We placed that couple in the ceremony area and had a blast capturing them in their natural state, which was just being joyfully in love! We walked around the lake area and also in the woods.

Why do photographers do styled shoots?

First off, it can be a great marketing tool. For photographers just getting started, it’s good way to come together with other creatives and photograph a setup that looks like something out of a magazine – definitely Pinterest worthy!

Even for those of us who aren’t just getting started, it can be a great way to keep fresh content, learn from other wedding photographers, meet wedding vendors, see new venues, and photograph in a low-stress setting for a couple of hours. I love photographing weddings but there’s something nice about being in a low-pressure environment for a day!!
