Nicole and Steven had quite a beautiful and fun vision for their wedding and Shuey Mill provided a great setting for that. They wanted small, details-focused, casual, fun, and relaxed. I think they got just that! When I first spoke with Nicole last year, she described their big day. She wanted a fall wedding, a small charming ceremony, and a reception to be filled with laughter, barbeque, and games. Only 30 guests would be invited. I thought this sounded like a great day they were planning and I was super stoked for it!
The day came and the bride and groom were getting ready in separate locations (which is something I commonly see!) I typically start off with photographing details. Nicole’s details photos were so much fun to capture. She had cowboy boots and beautiful light pink ribbons and details to help me build a gorgeous flat lay for her. The girls and guys both had a relaxing morning getting ready together and eventually it was time to head to Shuey Mill.
When we arrived at Shuey Mill, the first step was to get Nicole and her dad set up for a first look. I love when fathers and daughters decide to do this! We used the backdrop of the venue to capture this moment and it was really sweet between Nicole and her dad. And next up was to get a first look with Nicole and Steven – the moment was here! Shuey Mill is nestled right up against Twin Creek Metro Park. A short walk over will find a beautiful park with a long walking path, tall trees, and an open field.
We set up their first look here by having Steven face toward the tree for some time. We got Nicole in place and when Steven turned to look at her – it was such a special moment! He was so happy to see his bride! I love capturing moments like this. After their first look we took photos of family, bridal party, and the bride and groom and once again the park provided a great space to do all of this.
It was finally time to walk down the aisle and say “I Do.” At Shuey Mill, there is an open lawn in between the two houses they have on site. I felt the way the ceremony was positioned yielded some great light! Additionally, there were so many lovely details at the ceremony (and reception). The flowers consisted of bright pink, light pink, and white and just looked so neat up against all of the white chairs. The couple incorporated Star Wars music into their ceremony and their officiant (also a close friend) dressed like a jedi!
Their ceremony was filled with laughter and tears and the couple exchanged their own vows. After the ceremony we captured some additional photos of the two (once again Shuey Mill has many different photo locations to walk around and enjoy). Side note, it was the weekend before Halloween, so we were able to get a few photos of the couple next to some Halloween decor!
The sun set and we were ready to start dinner! It was, as promised, barbeque! The reception was held in the larger house at Shuey Mill. Dinner guests sat on one long table, with once again, a well decorated area! I think this allowed for the bride and groom to really enjoy the company of their guests. After dinner, the maid of honor shared a toast, Nicole and Steven cut their cake, and there were a few dances. But mostly there were games! Jenga, connect 4, cards against humanity and more were all available for play.
If you’re thinking of a small, intimate wedding, (or even a larger wedding) checking out Shuey Mill in Germantown, Ohio should be on your list!
