Once you decide to elope, it feels like you’re moving forward from planning a big busy day to focusing on just the two of you! Now don’t get me wrong, I love big weddings but I also love elopements! You may have many thoughts running through your head! What do I wear? (Do I still wear a gown?) Where should we go? I’m here to help prep you for having a great Ohio elopement!
First and foremost, think of who you are as a couple. Do you love adventure? An elopement on a nature trail or state park is a great way to showcase YOU. Do you love the city? The downtown areas in Ohio (such as Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, etc.) are great spots to capture your love. Do you love all of those things and can’t decide? Not a big deal at all – I’m here to help you choose an amazing spot.
I definitely prefer a great nature spot. Think Red River Gorge, Hocking Hills, Clifton Gorge, and others.
Many of these places have small micro-wedding locations that you can still host some close family and friends. Or you can rent an Airbnb. Once you have that plan, you’ll also need to identify who will officiate your wedding – which is no different than planning a full wedding! You can still host a fun and small party to celebrate your elopement.
In addition to finding the location you want, there are certain areas of each park that will be preferred for saying your vows. In some locations, you may say “I Do” at a small venue and then go out for adventurous photos, or you can find a location to do your vows at! It’ll be different for each area and there’s plenty of info online to figure that out.
Once you narrow down the location, next it’s time to details. I still think for elopements, wearing a beautiful dress is still key! And because you’ve saved money on things like catering and a DJ, you can really go all out.
In addition to finding an amazing dress, you can really invest in a beautiful bouquet. I love brides who find a bouquet that really offsets their dress.
Not crazy about the idea of wearing uncomfortable shoes? I’ve seen brides go all out on the dress and wear hiking boots!
Ok, so now you have the perfect location, awesome attire, a short guest list prepared, some florals. Now it’s time to figure out a few other vendors (hello photography – let’s talk – see my link below!!) Your photographer should be able to offer some pointers on lighting and locations and help plan your timeline for the day (these are both services I offer).
You’ll also want to still find a great hair and makeup vendor. It’s still nice to consider looking great for the best day of your life!
