So, you might be looking for the best place to do your engagement photos – or you might be looking for a photographer to take those gorgeous photos of you! Regardless, you’ve come to a great spot if you’re looking for Dayton engagement photographer and/or location ideas! Below I’m going to list out some of my favorite spots in and around the Dayton, Ohio area. These locations provide beautiful light, a lovely backdrop, and will leave you with photos of people asking “where did you go to get those done?!”
About the photographer: I’m Kate and I’m a wedding photographer that serves the tri-state area (Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky) but I’m also a Dayton engagement photographer as well. I love photographing engagement sessions! It’s a great time to just relax with each other in front of the camera, learn a bit posing, prompts, and what feels right so that when you get to your wedding day, you feel ready to go! That’s why I always recommend to my couples to have an engagement session done!
Luckily, Dayton has many areas to offer for engagement photos. I’m going to list off my favorites and these are in no particular order! I’ll also list some additional areas to consider that I haven’t yet had the pleasure of photographing! And if you’re need of a Dayton engagement photographer (rather for your engagement session, or as part of a bigger wedding package) I’d love to talk! Additionally, if you’re looking for ideas in the Cincinnati area, check out my blog here.
Caesar Creek State Park is about a half hour outside of Dayton proper and is a beautiful location for engagement photos. The park has many different areas to consider (there’s the spillway, different hiking trails, and the gorge area), however for this particular session, we chose the beach! That’s right, if you just type in “Caesar Creek Beach” into your google maps, it will take you right to the lake that has a beautiful beach to photograph!
For this fall session at Caesar Creek, we started photographing near the pretty trees that are in the same area as the beach and for their outfit change, we went down by the sand! It resulted in some really pretty photos!
John Bryant State Park is another beautiful option in the Dayton Area. For this engagement session we picked a trail head and walked down to the river. It made for absolutely lovely photos in the forest.
For this same engagement session, we drove from John Bryant to downtown Yellow springs. These photos were taken in late May and as you can see, the flowers in bloom were so breathtaking! Yellow springs has so many different colored buildings and just really makes the photos pop!
I love photographing at Cox! There are so many gorgeous flowers and I love all the beautiful trees. The park is very big and just has so many different areas to walk around and enjoy. It’s an easy park to navigate and find and it’s no wonder so many couples choose this for their session.
Riverscape provides another really great backdrop for engagement photos. Riverscape is right in downtown Dayton, so it’s an easy spot to get to if you live in that area.
This particular couple chose to rollerblade at their session! It was so fun!
For an additional session I did at Riverscape, this couple and I walked on the bridge for a totally different view!
Here are some honorable mentions that I haven’t had the opportunity to photograph as of writing this blog:
Wegerzyn Gardens
Oakes Quarry
Sugarcreek Metropark
